At Greenland Recycling Solutions, we are tackling one of the most overlooked forms of plastic pollution: cigarette butts. With an estimated 4.5 trillion butts polluting our environment globally, these small items pose a significant threat to our ecosystems and public health.
Contrary to popular belief, cigarette filters aren’t biodegradable. They are made of cellulose acetate, a plastic that can take up to a decade to break down. During this time, they leach harmful chemicals like arsenic, lead, and nicotine into our soil and water systems, endangering both wildlife and human health.
Recognizing the urgent need for a solution, we have invested in a state-of-the-art, in-house facility specifically designed to recycle tobacco products, including cigarette butts. Our advanced Tobacco Reclaimer system can process up to 100 kg of waste cigarettes per hour, with an impressive 95% tobacco recovery rate.
Here is how our innovative process works:
Cigarette Removal:
Cigarettes are carefully removed from their packaging to prevent damage.
Feeding into Segregating Unit:
The cigarettes are fed into a segregating unit, which separates the tobacco from the filters.
Tobacco and Filter Separation:
The unit efficiently divides the tobacco and filters into distinct streams.
Tobacco Collection and Composting:
Separated tobacco waste is collected and directed to a composting machine.
Filter Processing:
Filters are crushed and then processed through a cyclone machine, converting them into a cotton-like material.
This process allows us to prevent harmful substances from entering our ecosystems and contribute to a cleaner environment.
Our Tobacco Reclaimer is just one example of how we are addressing complex waste challenges. We continuously strive to develop new recycling technologies and processes to manage a wide range of waste materials effectively.
At Greenland Recycling Solutions, we are committed to creating a cleaner, greener future. By choosing our services, businesses and communities across the UAE are not just managing waste – they are actively contributing to environmental preservation and public health protection.
Join us in our mission to combat cigarette butt pollution. Together, we can make a significant impact on this pervasive environmental issue and create a more sustainable world, one cigarette butt at a time.
